Peanut Butter & Co-NYC

Peanut Butter & Co

Who would have thought, you could elevate the ordinary pb&j to epic proportions?  I surely didn't think it was possible but now I am a believer. This place has been on my radar for years. I never bothered cuz I thought, "It's Peanut Butter!?" Well this was the best freaking peanut butter sandwich I've ever ate. They have tons of flavors of peanut butter. You can usually find their stuff in your local grocery store. White Chocolate, maple, spicy, cinnamon raisin, or chocolate chip to name a few. I got the most popular Elvis with honey, bananas, and bacon. I was impressed.

Need some homemade meats and pierogies? Of course you do and so do I. There is few places around to get homemade pierogies like great grandma used to make. Polish platters of sauerkraut and kielbasa. Stuffed cabbage, pastrami, and venison jerky please. This place rocks if you are in the Pine Island area but if you aren't the Smoke House in Saugerties is better and the pierogies on rt28 are better also. Worth a stop.

Provincetown Portuguese Bakery-MA

Provincetown Portuguese Bakery

-nothing that I know of

I cannot express the beauty of a single hot bite of Malassada. Picture the best fried dough you have ever had. Seriously, better then the fair or carnival. Better then zepolies or funnel cake. Whatever you think is the best times two. Covered in cinnamon and sugar. They are frying them all day, right in the window. With a line out the door you are guaranteed a hot one.
Also had some kind of cream filled coconut cake which was enjoyed, but honestly I don't know how anything could compare to the fried dough.
I will be back again whenever I'm on the Cape. I forgot to mention, this place is crazy cheap!

Markey's Lobster Pool-NH

Kinda dingey lobster shack, no frills, nothing fancy, and a bit of that New England Attitude. The view from dining deck is alright with some ocean views. Fresh boiled lobster and the fried seafood combo were excellent. I would suggest you plan your ordering as there are three different stations to order what you would like. Order anything that requires boiling first (I.E. Lobsters, clams, etc.), than your fried stuff, soups, and finally beverages.  There is an ATM available inside, as they only take cash. They are famous for their lobster roll rivalry with Brown's across the street. I've had my share of lobster rolls and although this was the text book definition, it wasnt very exciting. Alittle lobster, alittle mayo, and a toasted bun is all you need. I have no plans on stopping back unfortunately.  Stopping here during a road trip from Cape Cod to Maine, I can honestly say the beaches of NH are depressing and run down in comparison to their neighbors. Now I know why no one talks about New Hampshire Beaches. But if you find yourself in this deserted wasteland and need mediocre seafood Markey's is the place to go.

SoNo Baking Company-CT

SoNo Baking Company

Norwalk, CT 06856

Unique Sweets

SoNo Baking is located in Norwalk, very close to the aquarium and Stepping Stones. It is in a pretty nice area down by the water.  It was very clean inside with plenty of pastries and breads to select from. We got and few pastries and a sandwich to go.  Everything was good but no reason to go back. I do suggest going to Stepping Stones Children Museum if you have children. SoNo Baking was on the Cooking Channel for their fruit focaccia.

Hoffman's Ice Cream-NJ

Since 1955, Hoffman's has been a Jersey Shore institution.  So many deliscious, made in house, flavors to choose from it's plain crazy. Also famous for an icecream sundae called "the octopus" which includes 8 scoops and 8 toppings.  Fudge mint cookie, peanut butter crunch, chocolate brownie cookie dough, toasted coconut just to name a few.
I thought the ice cream was average. Kinda icy unfortunately.  They did have a nice clean place with a great selection of flavors. If you are on the shore it's worth a stop.

Jersey Mike's Subs-NJ

Jersey Mike's Subs

Jersey Mike's has been slicing up submarines since 1956. A Jersey Shore institution, located in Pt. Pleasant NJ. I had heard about this place a few years back and during a recent trip to the shore this was the first place we stopped.  Jersey Mike's has several hundred locations nation wide but Pt. Pleasant was the original.  Place was clean and had definitely been updated. Like an upscale Subway. The sandwiches were very pricy and nothing special. Somewhere around $8-9 for a 9in and $12ish for a foot long.  My wife and I both agreed, they have the mayo/oil/vinegar/herb ratio dialed in just right. Good flavors kinda thin. We won't be stopping back.
